All small business owner’s experience overwhelm. Inevitably, the moment you think your business is getting ready to propel forward… something sets you back. Whether an employee comes down with an illness, a package fails to show up that is needed in that moment, or equipment breaks down, some days feel like you can’t get ahead. When this happens, we have to drop our “grand plans” and reprioritize.

What do you do when small business overwhelm comes knocking on your door? My husband and I own White Mountains Tree Service in addition to 16:3 Marketing. We understand how small business owner’s can fall into overwhelm all too well. When that happens, we have to “give” on something. Sometimes it’s not being able to make one of our children’s games or sometimes it’s having to reschedule with a client; those are the good days. The real overwhelm happens when financial burden comes into play. In those times, we eventually kneel down and pray. Then we reprioritize and figure out the next step. Because GRIT is the common component of a small business owner.

Knowing that marketing goes to the way side when overwhelm knocks on your door, there are 3 tips we recommend at 16:3 Marketing.

Tip 1: The bare minimum is more than doing nothing at all.

  • One social media post a week is better than none. It still drives engagement to your business, and it keeps you moving forward. Figure out your bare minimum in social media marketing, and stick to it.

Tip 2: Schedule your posts ahead of time.

  • Did you know you can preschedule posts? Knowing that overwhelm can creep in at any moment, we recommend scheduling a months worth of your bare minimum posts ahead of time. This simple gesture can help drive continued traffic to your business through times of overwhelm.

Tip 3: Request reviews on your final correspondence with clients.

  • You may already be participating in an excellent digital marketing campaign and not even know it. If you are requesting reviews from your clients to an online platform (social media site or Google Business Profile), pat yourself on the back, because you are participating in marketing and driving engagement to your business. If you are not, by instituting this simple practice as a daily routine, you can be driving traffic to your online presence without doing anything beyond the standard daily correspondence you have with your clients. Hot Tip: program your receipts to request the review. It will take time on the front end, and then you are home free and can worry about your daily priorities you need to tackle.
